I’m not one to get into political scandals, so I’ll leave that discussion to the experts. But what’s interesting about the recent developments in the Petraeus case is that it’s just one of many sagas of high-visibility people whose poor personal-life decisions are made public – and, of course, result in speedy and humiliating falls from grace. You have to wonder what’s going on in the minds of the highly-visible and highly-accomplished that makes them engage in the risky business of cheating, sexual email exchanges, sexting, and cyberstalking. We can’t get into their heads to find out, but here are some pretty good guesses.
The Insecurity Element
Very powerful or accomplished people may have a touch of insecurity in them. Actually, they may have a lot of underlying insecurity, says Dr. Reef Karim, who heads the Control Center in LA, and treats celebrities, political figures, and royalty for everything from addiction to dealing with reality of their achievements. The internal insecurity of the power players i… Read More

Dr. Reef Karim, Dissects Hollywood relationships and explains why they don’t last
Have you ever wondered why so many Hollywood relationships burn out with lightening speed? So have we. It seems that Tinseltown doesn’t suffer from the seven-year itch, they appear to have itchy feet all the time.
Earlier this week, we spoke to Dr. Reef Karim, The Sex, Drugs & Relationships Doctor and Psychiatrist & Relationship Expert, who has a new book out titled “Why Does He Do That? Why Does She Do That?”.
We went back to him with the topic of Hollywood couples and their subsequent breakups firmly in mind.
Here is our exclusive interview with him….and see what he has to say about Brangelina
Celebzter: Hollywood is littered with broken relationships, why do you think the stars seem to lack an ability to maintain marriages more than most people?
Dr. Reef Karim: Most people (well, over fifty percent) can’t maintain a marriage. In a fast paced society where individual goals seem to be valued higher than emotional connection, it’s hard to maintain ANYTHING long-term.
Now, add the fact that you’re a celebrity. You’re probably surro… Read More
Burning Question: Why Do Women Love Romantic Comedies?
Although they can be formulaic and even caveman-like — boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl in the end — many women simply can’t resist a good romantic comedy. Most of my friends are hooked: Laurian because of the happy endings, Brenda because they give her the “goosies,” and Nhora because nothing beats “laughter and love put together.” This is no surprise to psychologist and attorney Dr. Sheila Forman. She explained to me that these movies speak to our primitive needs of forming a relationship and added, “Women flock to them like chocolate after a tough day.”
Film Industry Mainstay
The romcom has been a mainstay in the film industry for eons, and no wonder when there are so many “awww” moments, such as this line from “Jerry Maguire”: “I love you. You … you complete me.” And the equally iconic response: “Shut up, just shut up. You had me at ‘hello’.”

Exclusive Interview With Dr. Reef Karim, The Sex, Drugs and Relationships Doctor On Why Women And Men Will Never Really Understand Each Other
We’ve all used that cliché that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, time and time again.
And anyone who is in a relationship knows, the opposite sex, is well, just different, and has an entirely different mindset.
Dr. Reef Karim,The Sex, Drugs & Relationships Doctor and Psychiatrist & Relationship Expert, has a new book out titled “Why Does He Do That? Why Does She Do That?”, in which he explores the mysteries surrounding women and men. And it seems that men lie and do anything to appease us more often than women do.

The Reality TV Obsession: A Psychological Investigation
Are we all becoming obsessed with Reality TV? Seriously, think about it…
For some, it’s being on the show. It’s their 15 minutes of pure, exhibitionistic experience with fantasies of fame, stardom or at a minimum…popularity. Perhaps it’s an attempt to move up their social standing or a conscious or unconscious attempt to gain the attention they so desperately needed but never received in their developmental childhood years.
For others, it’s watching the show. It’s a voyeuristic digestion of “reality” while identifying with real life characters who openly display their eccentricities and/or pathology across our television screens. We watch sex appeal, flirtation, jealousy, rage, competition, conflict, anxiety, shame, impulsivity, hedonism, intoxication, narcissism, sex… the list goes on and on. In a way, it’s much safer to watch it play out on television than to experience it ourselves. And their lies the potential problem. Is reality television just entertainment or does it have a deeper psychological effect on us?
